Keep It In Your Pants

Rom 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Some may ask, “Why am I putting a message about the abortion issue in a stewardship blog?”. Permit me to explain.
WorldWIND's (my) definition of stewardship is “The act of managing your time, gifts and desires to bring glory to God.” (see Stewardship Redefined Post) Within that definition, there is an assumption that your desires play a key role as they drive your actions....Still with me?
Abortions are not the problem; the problem is unwanted pregnancies. Abortions are the result of unwanted pregnancies. Unwanted pregnancies are 100% the result of men not controlling their desires and “not keeping it in their pants.” No one goes through artificial insemination and then aborts the baby. If there were no unwanted pregnancies, a woman would never have to decide whether or not to have an abortion.
Imagine what would happen if men “kept it in their pants”:
· Significantly less sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
· Significantly less rape.
· Significantly less sexual child abuse.
· Significantly less infidelity. (Divorce rates would drop by approximately 20%.)
· Significantly less prostitution.
· Significantly less pornography.
· NO ABORTIONS
I am struck by the amount of ranting and raving that goes on about women who are having abortions and yet, nothing is said about the men who impregnated them. Remember the Garden of Eden when Eve took a bite of the apple, and Adam, who was standing right there, never tried to stop her and even had a bite himself. Later, when God confronts him about his sin, he says, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” Sounds to me like “here we go again.” Men are taking sides, some Pro-Life, and other Pro-Choice when, in reality, they are the only ones who can resolve this issue of abortion.
Clearly, women are having abortions, and something has to be done about that. Legislation may curtail the ability to have an abortion, but it won’t eliminate it. Remember how successful God’s laws were at curtailing the flesh. I recently read a blog which asked the question “Should men get involved in the abortion issue?” to which my answer would be NO; they should eliminate it by accepting their responsibility, managing their desires and “Keeping it in their pants.”
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.
